I am currently an honours student in the MIMMP at the University of Pretoria. I have always had a strong urge to help conserve the world around me and I believe that a good understanding of science is the backbone that allows for the rational decision making required in this field. My honours project focuses on quantifying the level overlap in core habitat usage between different rookeries of Subantarctic fur seals. Additionally, I will also be looking at whether the different rookeries have any preference for specific environmental cues at their respective foraging areas. This will provide a clearer picture of how these central-place foragers choose their habitats and whether there are factors that have a greater effect than the distance the animals must travel.
